We round up the latest accessories for your working wheels

It's all bull (bars)!

ARB has recently launched a new range of well priced commercial bull bars for the latest Toyota HiLux, Holden Colorado, Nissan Pathfinder and Navara D40.

Manufactured from durable steel - heavy gauge 76.1mm centre frame tube and 47.6mm outer frame tube - and finished in a hard wearing satin black powder coat, the new bars feature upswept and tapered wings for excellent approach angle and ground clearance for off road travel, and a split pan for additional strength and optimised airflow into the engine.

Mounting systems are designed to spread impact and winch loads evenly over the vehicle's chassis and are specific to each vehicle model.

The light is getting brighter

Designed for the most demanding conditions, Narva's new 'Delta' LED work lamps offer everything that is required to withstand the harshest environment. This includes fully sealed die-cast aluminium housing; polycarbonate lens; hard wired and sealed cable entry plus a 4mm steel heavy duty mounting bracket that allows the lamp to be tilted 30 degrees up or down from the vertical position.

Producing 2000 lumens of whiter light in a powerful and focussed beam ideal for forward illumination, the performance of the lamp is outstanding and offers increased safety with less eye strain over longer periods of use. The lamps are multi-voltage 9 - 36 volt and have a low current draw of just 1.75A at 12 volt and 0.85A at 24 volt making them suitable for a wide range of applications requiring performance and durability. 50,000+ hours, impact and vibration resistant construction, the new series of IP65 rated work lamps are also covered by Narva's five year LED Warranty. Available from leading automotive and transport outlets; RRP approximately $599.

Bike for work?

Look sharp in Slix™, Draggin Jeans new slim fitting, protective motorcycle jeans with the look and feel of leather. Constructed with quality stretch denim coated with a wax finish, these innovative jeans are made to be worn fitted close to the body and will quickly mould to individual body shapes. Of course, they breathe like ordinary denim and feature Draggin Jeans' unique knitted Kevlar/Dynemma lining so they'll keep you safe in the event of a spill too. The fit is lower at the waist than at the back to ensure both comfort and skin coverage whilst riding. Available in both men's and women's cuts. Great on and off the bike - and machine washable to boot. In store in October, RRP $279.

Adjustable wrench

Adjustable wrenches are recognised as a handy all-rounder to have in the workshop or tool box, but it's a well known fact that the non-adjustable variety does the job with marginally more efficiency and precision.

That's why BAHCO turned their attention to maximising the performance of this tool and the result is the new BAHCO 9031 - an adjustable wrench which features extra wide but thin jaws (opening to 38 mm) and a convenient short handle, ensuring improved access in confined spaces coupled with optimum strength. Feeling pressured?

This device will help you handle the pressure - that's tyre pressure we're talking about. Our motoring experts consistently tell us that best fuel economy is achieved when your tyres are properly inflated. Now you can check your tyre pressure before you even leave the garage. Kincrome's natty digital tyre pressure gauge accurately measures the pressure of most vehicle tyre valves. It reads PSI, Kpa and BAR scales and even gives measurements in half pound increments, so it's also perfect for lower pressure tyres such as motorbikes. One button operation, with auto shut-off while the bright back lit screen displays a clear digital reading for easy viewing. Small enough for your pocket or glove box, so you can check your pressure any time. RRP $19.95.

Perfect measurements

Mistakes in tiny measurements can have huge consequences. Avoid trouble by packing Jaycar's 10 dioptre LED magnifier in your tool kit. Inside the viewer is a graduated scale in metric and imperial graduations so you can take accurate measurements of an object down to fractions of a millimetre. All metal construction and ground glass optics, with three LEDs and 26mm eyepiece for crystal-clear, even illumination. Uses two AA batteries. RRP $29.95.

Size matters!

Another simple but indispensable device to save leg miles. Keep Kincrome's SizeCatcher on your key ring and you will never have to guess at the size of a fastener again. Use the Sizecatcher to measure the size of a nut, bolt head or other fastener so you can choose the right size spanner or socket from your tool kit every time. Measures both imperial and metric - from 8 to 25mm on one side, or 5/16" to 1" on the other. More information at www.kincromegroup.com - a bargain at $9.95.

Special, the untold story of Australia's Holden, by Dr John Wright

Journalist John Wright - Trading Post's own motoring expert - achieved his PhD with this fascinating history of "Australia's own car". It charts the popularity of the unmistakable FJ model and how it revolutionised Australians' mobility after the second World War and tracks the fortunes of a former Adelaide carriage builder that as General Motors Holden became a lasting cultural and industrial icon. Wright considers how American-owned GMH so accurately felt Australia's automotive pulse, building robust, practical cars for every purse and purpose. Part social history, part corporate history and part auto-biography, it's a highly recommended read for motoring enthusiasts. Published by Allen & Unwin, RRP $35.
