Help: Rules for bidding

Trading Post® rules, policies and guidelines are designed to:

  • protect buyers and sellers
  • help maintain an online trading environment that is safe and fun for all members of the Trading Post community.

Rules for bidding on Auctions

  • Placing bids
Buyers are legally obligated to purchase any items they bid on if they are the winning bidder for an auction.
  • Withdrawing bids
    Bids may be withdrawn only:
    • within 1 hour of a bid being placed
    • if a buyer has accidentally typed in an incorrect bid amount (e.g. $55.00 instead of $5.50)
To withdraw a bid for any other reason, the buyer must contact the seller and ask the seller to cancel the bid. See withdrawing bids for details on how to withdraw your bid.
  • Paying for the item
The winning bidder is obliged to purchase the item at the final Auction bid.
  • Shill (dummy) bidding
Trading Post® prohibits sellers from using other usernames or asking other Trading Post members to make bids to artificially drive up the price of an Auction.

Shill bidding is unfair to buyers. If you suspect shill bidding is taking place on an Auction, please report it.
  • Payment & Delivery
By bidding on an item, buyers accept the payment and delivery options and sale terms offered by the seller.

Buyers may contact the seller to request additional information or alternative payment or delivery options. However, the seller is entitled to agree or decline the request.
  • Bids can be made at any time until the Auction ends
Bids are accepted at any time before the listing ends, regardless of how close to the end the bid is placed.
  • Disclosing reserves
Where a seller has included a reserve on their Auction, the reserve price is not visible to you. If a bid placed is under the reserve price, a message will display under the current bid stating the reserve has not been met.

Sellers are under no obligation to reveal their reserve to buyers.
