Help: Event Ticketing

Scalping is the act of buying something and reselling it at a price far above the original cost. Many states in Australia consider it a criminal offence to scalp tickets for particular events. Check any applicable terms, conditions and laws before you buy or sell an event ticket.

Buying event tickets

Four things you should consider before buying event tickets on tradingpost.com.au.

  1. Terms and conditions
Check the specific terms and condition for the tickets you are buying. Some event promoters:
    • apply rigid conditions to the resale of tickets, and
    • may cancel tickets that are not resold in accordance with these conditions
  2. Price
Many terms and conditions specify that a ticket may not be re-sold at a price that is higher than its face value. Check that the seller is allowed to re-sell the ticket at the specified price, as a promoter may cancel a ticket that is sold at an inflated price.
  3. Possession
Never buy a ticket from a seller who does not have it in their possession at the time you are purchasing.
  4. Check the date
Confirm that the event is scheduled for the date advertised by the ticket seller, perhaps by contacting the venue or the promoter. Dishonest sellers have been known to sell tickets to unsuspecting buyers for an event that has been postponed or cancelled.

Buying gift cards

Three things you should consider before buying gift cards on tradingpost.com.au.

  1. Receipts
Ask for the original receipt when purchasing the card and for any subsequent purchases that were made against the card.
  2. Possession
Never buy a gift card from a seller who does not have it in their possession at the time you are purchasing.
  3. Check the expiry date
Gift cards will often have a expiry date set from the date of purchase.

Some companies will let you check the balance of the card and the purchase history if you have the card number and access PIN. Ask the seller if they can supply these before you purchase.
