Help: Get to know the seller
Make sure you’re comfortable buying from the seller before you decide to buy or bid on an item. There are a few things you should consider finding out about first.
What should I consider?
- Proof of ownership and possession
Ask the seller questions to obtain as much information as possible about the item.
- Feedback & Ratings
Check the seller’s feedback to check what sort of experiences other buyers may have had with this seller.
- Check whether the seller is a Verified Trader
Verified Trader™ is our trusted seller & buyer program in which members apply to have their personal details verified by Australia Post. We’ve introduced Verified Trader™ to help you feel confident when buying on tradingpost.com.au.
- Validate the seller’s details
Contact the seller before finalising payment to check the seller’s contact details. This way you know you can get in touch with them if you have trouble paying for or receiving the item.
- Australian Business Number (ABN)
If the seller has an ABN, check that it matches the rest of their details. The Australian Government provides an online ABN Lookup service at www.abr.business.gov.au where you can check whether a business has an ABN or ACN.
- Be aware of internet scams
Pay particular attention to sales that involve sending payments overseas. Find out about the latest scams.
- Trust your instinct
If something seems too good to be true, it might be. So, if you don’t feel comfortable purchasing from the seller, then don’t!
Feedback & Ratings
Feedback & Ratings are designed to promote honesty and fair trading within the Trading Post® community.
Feedback & ratings:
- allow you to help build or check the reputation of another trader
- provide buyers and sellers with the incentive to trade fairly.
After all, keeping to their end of the bargain may affect whether they can successfully buy or sell on tradingpost.com.au in the future!
