Extra tips for specific situations
- Can’t contact the seller
We reckon 5 business days is a reasonable amount of time to allow the seller to contact you. If you’re getting edgy, the following things are okay during this time.
- Email the seller to let them know you are ready to complete the sale.
- Check your email settings, particularly if you or your ISP use a spam filter, to make sure you receive their email.
- Send the seller an email from an alternative email address. If after 5 business days the seller has not been in touch, we can give you some guidance on what to do next. Contact the Trading Post Online Team.
- the Item Number for the item you purchased
- the date you agreed to purchase the item (ie the date you won the Auction, accepted a 2nd Offer or agreed to Buy Now)
- the seller’s username.
- Seller won’t sell
A seller is obligated to sell the item to you at the agreed price and subject to any agreed payment and delivery terms if you won the Auction, accept a 2nd Offer or commit to buy a Buy Now item. Use the steps at the top to try and resolve the issue fairly. - Item doesn’t arrive
Here are a couple of things to try.- Firstly, allow a reasonable amount of time for the item to arrive. This will vary depending on how you paid for the item, where the item was being sent from and how it was being sent. (You might want to check the delivery or postage details again.)
- If after 7 business days you still haven’t received the item, or at the very least an update from the seller, send them a polite email. Check that they received your payment and have sent the item, and confirm that they have your correct address.
- Check with the delivery service. Maybe the post office or courier service can confirm if the item was sent or help you work out if it was lost in transit.
- If the item still fails to arrive after 10 business days, it’s time to start negotiating with the seller. Contact them to see if you can agree on a way to sort out the situation.
- Item received is not what was described in the ad
Some examples of items that are clearly not as they were described, include:
- damaged items (where the damage was not outlined)
- items that are the wrong model, brand or colour, or
- counterfeit or pirated items.
