Help: Issues with sellers

If you’re having some trouble completing a sale, we suggest you follow the steps below in the order listed.

  1. Stay calm
Losing your cool will get you nowhere fast. Remaining calm will help you achieve a better outcome much faster.

  2. Negotiate a fair solution
Do your best to make contact with the seller and work with them to come up with a solution you can both agree to.

  3. Use feedback & ratings
Trading reputation is important in attracting buyers and sellers, which is why the feedback & ratings system works so well. So go ahead… be as honest as you can and comment on your experience with the seller. And while we can understand your frustration, please leave out any offensive remarks or language.

  4. Raise a dispute with Trading Post®
If you have had a good crack at working with the seller but still can’t resolve the issue, you can raise a dispute. You must do it within 30 days from the date you committed to purchase the item. Trading Post® will remain neutral throughout the entire process.

  5. Raise a dispute with PayPal or your bank
We can’t guarantee it, but you might be able to raise a dispute to recover your payment if you paid for an undelivered item via PayPal or credit card. Sorry, this kind of dispute doesn’t go through us. You will need go to PayPal or your bank, depending on how you paid.

  6. Banning
You can ban this member from buying or bidding on items you sell in the future. Remember, banning is not about revenge; it’s about protecting you from the same unreliable traders in future.

Communication between traders
Buyers and sellers should always have a go at resolving an issue with each other before doing anything else.

Extra tips for specific situations

  1. Can’t contact the seller

We reckon 5 business days is a reasonable amount of time to allow the seller to contact you. If you’re getting edgy, the following things are okay during this time.

    • Email the seller to let them know you are ready to complete the sale.
    • Check your email settings, particularly if you or your ISP use a spam filter, to make sure you receive their email.
    • Send the seller an email from an alternative email address.
    • If after 5 business days the seller has not been in touch, we can give you some guidance on what to do next. Contact the Trading Post Online Team.
    Please provide:
    • the Item Number for the item you purchased
    • the date you agreed to purchase the item (ie the date you won the Auction, accepted a 2nd Offer or agreed to Buy Now)
    • the seller’s username.
  2. Seller won’t sell
A seller is obligated to sell the item to you at the agreed price and subject to any agreed payment and delivery terms if you won the Auction, accept a 2nd Offer or commit to buy a Buy Now item. Use the steps at the top to try and resolve the issue fairly.
  3. Item doesn’t arrive
Here are a couple of things to try.
    • Firstly, allow a reasonable amount of time for the item to arrive. This will vary depending on how you paid for the item, where the item was being sent from and how it was being sent. (You might want to check the delivery or postage details again.)
    • If after 7 business days you still haven’t received the item, or at the very least an update from the seller, send them a polite email. Check that they received your payment and have sent the item, and confirm that they have your correct address.
    • Check with the delivery service. Maybe the post office or courier service can confirm if the item was sent or help you work out if it was lost in transit.
    • If the item still fails to arrive after 10 business days, it’s time to start negotiating with the seller. Contact them to see if you can agree on a way to sort out the situation.
  4. Item received is not what was described in the ad

Some examples of items that are clearly not as they were described, include:

    • damaged items (where the damage was not outlined)
    • items that are the wrong model, brand or colour, or
    • counterfeit or pirated items.
Most sellers on tradingpost.com.au are honest and reliable and will do their best to resolve an issue you have with an item purchased from them. You should contact them and follow the steps at the top to work through it fairly.
