How to search

Keyword search

This is a great tool to use if you
know what you're looking for.

• Type your keywords into the Search bar at the top of the page.
  You can choose a specific category and a state if you want to limit your search further.
• Use common terms or abbreviations that describe the item you are looking for (eg 10 speed bicycle, LCD TV, Ford Fairlane)
• Limit the number of words you type into the search box. Too many words may provide you with fewer search results.
• Once you have a list of search results, you can narrow down your search further using the Refine Options (see below).
• Search by ad number. Type ‘AdNumber:’ into the Search bar followed bar the number for the ad. (eg. AdNumber:WY2312995529).

Browse

Like window-shopping, this is the perfect way to go if you're not exactly sure what you're looking for and you want to have a look around.

1. Simply click any category on the left-hand side of the Trading Post homepage and make your way through the sub-categories to find a list of items.
2. You can then use Refine options (see below) if you’d like to restrict your search further.
   
   

Quick Finder

The Quick Finder can help you locate a range of items within a category with particular features or attributes.

1. Click any of the categories on the left-hand side of the Trading Post homepage to view a main category page.
   
2. Then use the options in the Quick Finder to search for items with particular features or attributes specific to that category.
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
   

Once you have a list of search results you can control the way the search results display and refine your search further to narrow down the results.

Sort your search results

Use the tabs above the search results to display only Auction listings, Buy Now listings or Classified ads.

Ads automatically display according to the time they have left. Use Sort by or click on the column headings to sort the items differently.

Refine your search results

The Refine Options tool appears on all search results pages. Use as many options as you like to narrow down your search.

Specify the item’s condition. Type in keywords to search for or exclude. Read search FAQs for tips on using keywords. Specify a maximum and/ or minimum price. Narrow your search to a state (region) or suburb (postcode). Use the Show Only options to restrict your search even further, to display only: Private seller ads or Dealer/Business ads Ads placed by Trading Post Verified Traders Photo ads Find Items listed today, in the last 3 days, in the last week, 2 weeks or 3 weeks. Search for Completed listings to find items that have sold or ads that have expired.

Save your search

Got the search right but didn’t find exactly what you were looking? Save the search criteria as a favourite search to save yourself time next time you want to search for the same item.
