Help: What to do when you don’t sell your item
There are lots of reasons why your item might not sell. It might be a bad time of year, for example, selling an air conditioner in winter. Or it might be priced higher than similar items.
If you’ve paid a fee to list your item and it doesn’t sell in 4 weeks, you can claim a refund under the Tradingpost.com.au Good As Gone Guarantee.
If you’ve listed your item with a free ad or you don’t claim a refund on your paid ad, and your item doesn’t sell, you can:
- Edit your ad – lower the price, add more photos or details to attract more buyers.
- Upgrade your ad – relist your ad and upgrade to a Get Noticed! package to attract more buyers.
- Relist your ad – once your ad has expired, you can relist it, but you may need to pay for a new ad, depending on the price of your item, and what it is.
- Extend your classified ad – this means that you can extend the expiry date. You can only do this if you’re a private advertiser, and you’re within 7 days of the day your ad is due to expire.
How to extend your classified ad
If you’re a private seller, you can extend your classified ad for free 7 days before it expires. When you extend your ad, you can also make changes to it. You might, for example, want to lower the price, or add some more photos.
Once your classified ad has expired, you cannot extend it. Instead, you will need to relist your ad.
To extend your ad:
- Sign in to Ad Tools and go to Live ads.
- Ads eligible for extension will display a Renew Ad button. Click this to extend your ad
- Make your changes and click on the Checkout button Note: you won't be able to change the category or increase your selling price.
- After you’ve finished editing your ad, check your Preview ad carefully before you click Pay Now & Submit to publish your revised ad.
How to upgrade your package
It’s worth considering upgrading your package to a Get Noticed package. These ads are given priority in search results, and are highlighted to make them stand out to buyers.
To upgrade your ad package, select the “Get Noticed!” package on the Pay Now and Submit page.
Enter your credit card details, and click Pay Now & Submit.
How to relist your ad
If your ad has expired you can relist your item without having to create a new ad from scratch. A relisted ad is charged the same fee as a new ad. If your ad hasn’t expired, we suggest you just extend it, which is free – see details above.
Here’s how you do it.
- Log into Ad Tools and go to Expired ads
- Choose the ad you want to relist. Ads able to be relisted will have a Relist button next to them.
- Click the Relist Ad button. This opens the Select a Category page. Please note that if you change the category, you might need to add or re-enter some details. Click Continue.
- Make any changes to your ad that you wish, then click the Checkout button.
- If necessary, complete your credit card details and click the Submit button.
