Category Rules
To improve your chances of buyers finding your item, it’s important to make sure you select the category that best suits your item.
What are the category rules?
- You must choose the appropriate category for your item when creating your ad.
- You may not ‘cross-sell’ your item in multiple categories.
- Any identical items you have for sale must not be listed in more than one ad.
Rules that are category-specific may include:
- how you can sell your item – the selling method you can choose
- whether you must include a price in your ad
- optional or mandatory details you must include about your item in you ad.

How many categories can I advertise in?
You may select one category per ad.
It’s a good idea to select the category that best suits your item so that buyers will be able to find your ad.
For example, a watch should be advertised in Fashion & Beauty > Jewellery > Watches.
Note: You must not create more than one ad for identical items. See rules for ads for further details.
Category-specific rules
The table below outlines rules specific to to particular categories:
- Classified, Buy Now or Auction - Indicates what ad types are permitted.
- Reserve Price – If you choose to sell you item via an Auction whether you may include a Reserve price.
- Pricing – Guidelines for pricing items.
- Details – Guidelines for details to include in your ad.
