Help: Selling strategies
Selling on tradingpost.com.au is fast, simple, and a great place to make some cash or start a business.
We’ve outlined some of the things that help our most successful sellers manage their ads and get that sale!
Making the most of your ad
- Choose the right package & listing features for your item
Trading Post® has a range of ad packages and listing features to suit the varying needs and budgets of all sellers. If you’re running a business, a Trading Post® Hotlist may help you cross-sell. - Be clear, concise and honest when writing your ad
Think about what a buyer is looking for with an item like yours, and avoid using gimmicks n your titles and descriptions. Prove to your buyer’s that you know what you’re selling by giving accurate details and specialised information. - Research the right keywords for your items
Make sure you’re using the right key words in your titles and short descriptions to help buyers find your ad – if they can’t find it, they can’t buy it. - Use the ad text features and html editor
Adding special formatting can be a great way to personalise your ad and highlight specific information. Try sticking to basic colours and simple fonts in a small range of sizes and avoid over-formatting your ad. - Include good quality photos
Buyers like to be able to see what they’re buying. Including photos is likely to build buyer confidence and encourage successful sales. - Track the sale of other seller’s items
Monitor which sellers achieve successful sales and which don’t. It can give you a good idea of the types of ads that attract serious buyers and result in a sale. - Get your pricing right
Check out ads for other similar items to ensure your item is competitively priced. - Identify yourself as a verified seller
Buyers want to feel confident that they’re buying from a genuine seller. Verified Traders™ have had their identity checked and verified by Trading Post® to help validate their standing as a trustworthy seller. - Consider becoming an authorised dealer
If you specialise in a particular brand, look into becoming an authorised dealer so buyers can identify that they’re purchasing a genuine product.
Building relationships with buyers
- Respond promptly, honestly and clearlyto questions from buyers
This shows that you are a reliable and trustworthy seller.
Buyers may also be looking at ads for similar items and a slow response could mean you lose the sale.
Monitor your email enquiries. Consider setting up some templates to reduce the amount of time spent writing responses. - Be honest about the condition of the item you’re selling
Include photos of any particular flaws or faults. Misleading a buyer is likely to result in you receiving negative feedback, which may deter other buyers from purchasing from you down the track. In the end, being honest may save you time and money. - Cater to as many buyers as possible
Offer a variety of payment options, including some trusted online methods such as PayPal and Paymate. - Considering rewarding repeat or high-value buyers
Offering a discount on their next purchase or including a bonus with their purchase may create buyer loyalty. As well as encouraging further purchases and word-of-mouth advertising, it demonstrates that you value them as a customer. - Once the buyer has paid, package the item well and organise delivery quickly
It may be worth offering postage discounts for multiple purchases as well as the option to choose express delivery.
