Help: Items not sold

My item didn’t sell. What can I do?

Sometimes making minor changes to your ad then relisting your ad, may be all it takes to secure a sale on your item.

  • Lower your asking price
Check ads for similar items placed by other sellers to make sure your original price was realistic and competitive. Sometimes reducing your price even slightly makes all the difference.
  • Change your photos
Buyers like to see what they’re buying. Have you included good quality photos that show everything a potential buyer would like to see?
  • Review the category and keywords
Is your ad in a category that interested buyers will look in? What about your title and short description? Do they include relevant keywords that buyers are likely to search on?
  • Change your item’s description
Look at your description to see whether you can write it in a way that makes it more appealing to buyers. Make use the formatting tools on tradingpost.com.au to improve the look and readability of your ad. Bulleted lists and bold keywords, in particular, make your ad punchy and easy to read.
  • Upgrade your ad package or add more listing features
Trading Post’s premium packages and listing features help your ad stand out and include:
    • highlighting
    • priority listing in a buyer’s search results
    • bold heading, and
    • up to 9 photos.

My item sold, but the sale fell through. What can I do?

Unfortunately, sales don’t always go to plan, even after someone agrees to purchase your item. We encourage you to first try to complete the sale by making contact with the buyer.

When that fails, here are some things you can do. The easiest and quickest steps are:

  • send a 2nd Offer
If your sale with the winning bidder falls through, an auction gives you the opportunity to offer your item to the next highest bidder.
  • relist your ad using sell similar and attempt to sell the item again
Make a few changes and you might have better luck a second time round.

If you haven’t been able to make contact with the buyer or haven’t received payment for your item, look at our suggestions for resolving issues with buyers.
