Help: Ban buyers

Trading Post® allows you to ban individual members from bidding on or buying items you sell with Trading Post Online.

Common reasons for banning a trader:

  • having a bad experience with a trader who you don’t wish to sell to in future
  • having good reason to believe that a particular trader is untrustworthy and you would like to avoid selling to them.

How do I ban a buyer?

You manage your banned buyers through Ad Tools.

  1. Sign in to Ad Tools and go to My Profile.
  2. Click Banned buyers.
  3. Type in the buyer’s username and enter a reason for banning them.

Try to enter a reason that makes sense to you in case you need to refresh your memory at some point, such as to consider removing the ban.

  4. Click Add to banned list.

Your banned buyers list

The buyer’s username will display in Your banned buyers list, along with the date you banned them and your reason.

Clicking on the buyer’s username will take you to their feedback and ratings page and allow you to monitor them in case you’d like to consider removing their ban in the future.

Banned buyers are permanently banned from purchasing or bidding on any future Buy Now or Auction items you sell with Trading Post® Online unless you remove the ban.

How do I remove a ban?

You can remove a ban you have placed on a buyer whenever you wish.

  1. Sign in to Ad Tools® and go to your My Profile.
  2. Click on Banned buyers to display your list of banned buyers.
  3. Select the buyer(s) you would like to remove the ban from and click Remove ban.

Common questions

  • Does banning a buyer cancel a bid they have made on my Auction?
Banning a buyer will not cancel their bid, but will mean they are unable to make further bids if they are outbid by another buyer. If the buyer you are banning is the highest bidder, we suggest you cancel their bid.
  • Are buyers notified when you ban them?
Buyers are not notified when a seller bans them. However, if a buyer attempts to buy or bid on an item being sold by a seller who has banned them, a message displays telling them they are unable to purchase from that seller.
  • Is there a limit on how many buyers I can ban?
No. You can ban as many buyers as you wish.
  • How long does a ban last?
Bans are permanent unless you remove the ban.
