Help: Reserve price

When you place an auction on tradingpost.com.au, you can state a reserve price for your item.

What is a reserve price?

A reserve price is the lowest price you are willing to sell your item for.
Reserve prices apply to Auctions only, are available only in selected categories and are optional.
When you set a reserve price, you are not obligated to sell if bids don’t meet the reserve price.

Why use a reserve price?

Many buyers prefer auctions because it gives them the opportunity to snatch up a bargain. Auctions with a low starting price are often likely to attract more interest than auctions starting at the price at which the seller is prepared to sell.
Reserve prices allow you to set a low start price, while protecting yourself from an unsatisfactory sale price.

Can buyers see my reserve price?

No. Buyers will not be able to see what the reserve price is, but will be aware that a reserve applies to your auction.
If a buyer’s bid does not meet your reserve, a ‘reserve has not been met’ message will display. Once bids have reached your reserve, the message will disappear and future buyers will not know a reserve applied to your item.

Can buyers ask what my reserve price is?

Trading Post® does not stop buyers from contacting you via tradingpost.com.au to ask about your reserve price. We leave it up to you to decide whether you reveal your reserve or not.
Whatever you decide to do, we recommend that you reply promptly, politely and honestly. A buyer will not necessarily stop bidding if you keep your reserve private, but politely encourage them to keep bidding until they reach it.

How do I set a reserve price?

When you create your auction, an optional Reserve price field appears on the same screen as the Starting price. Simply type in your reserve price.

If the category you have selected does not offer Reserve price, this option will not appear.

Is there a fee for setting a reserve price?

A nominal fee is added to the total cost of your ad when you set a reserve on your item. Look at Ad cost & fees for details on all advertising costs and fees.

Can I change my reserve price?

No. Your reserve price is locked in once your auction starts, so be sure to set your reserve carefully.
