Questions to help you decide

  • Will your buyers look in the paper for your ad?
A Classified ad is the only ad type that allows you to advertise in print as well as on tradingpost.com.au.
  • Do you know how much your item is worth or what you want for it?
Auctions often suit items that are rare or difficult to value, and also allow you to set a starting price and reserve price. A Buy Now or Classified ad may suit your item if you have a good idea of how much it’s worth and what you’re expecting to get for it.
  • Do you want to negotiate the price?
A Classified ad is the only ad type that allows you to negotiate directly with buyers on price and delivery.
  • Do you want to set a fixed price?
Buy Now ads let you set a fixed, non-negotiable price, and specify the delivery options you’re willing to allow.
  • Is it a small item that can be posted?
Auctions and Buy Now ads are great for many post-friendly items. They allow you to attract buyers all over Australia, rather than limiting the sale to local buyers only.
  • Are you selling a large, higher priced item?
Classified ads suit items that buyers are less likely to buy online, such as boats, cars and motorbikes.
  • Are you selling an animal or pet?
A Classified ad is the option you should use to advertise an animal or pet.
  • Will your buyers want to inspect the item before buying?
A Classified ad is the best way to sell if buyers are likely to want to inspect your item before purchase.
