Preparing to sell in Trading Post categories

Before you start selling it’s a good idea to do some research about the category you want to sell in.

  • Select the category that suits your item best.
Research the categories to make sure you have selected the appropriate category for selling your item. Find out where other sellers have listed items similar to yours.

    Compare prices
Research the category to find out the current market value for your item before deciding your price. You can help sell it faster by setting a realistic price.
  • Include category name and keywords in the ad title
When buyers are searching for an item like yours, they may enter the category name or particular keywords that are relevant to the category you are listing in. Research the category to find out what the best keywords are for your ad title.
  • Think like a buyer when writing your description
What will interest buyers the most about your item? List the benefits and features of your item that are particular to the category you are listing in.

Before you advertise your item, make sure the item is legal and allowed. Take a look at the Trading Post® list of Prohibited Content to make sure that the item you are selling isn’t prohibited.

Selling in certain categories

Event tickets

The re-sale of event tickets to concerts, theatre events and sporting events is dependent on the laws in your state or territory and is at the discretion of the promoter. Trading Post® recommends that the re-seller of the ticket should contact the issuer before listing the ticket for sale.
