Help: Event ticketing
Scalping is the act of buying something and reselling it at a price far above the original cost. Many states in Australia consider it a criminal offence to scalp tickets for particular events. Check any applicable terms, conditions and laws before you buy or sell an event ticket.
Selling
Can you resell tickets purchased for an event?
Whether or not you are allowed to resell a ticket to an event depends on the laws in your state or territory and is at the discretion of the promoter.
As the seller, it's your responsibility to ensure you comply with the ticketing terms and conditions, and any applicable laws. Therefore, we recommend you check with the promoter and check to see if it is legal to resell the ticket.
Before you resell an event ticket
It's important to note that promoters may cancel resold tickets if you don't comply with any applicable terms, conditions and laws. So before you resell a ticket:
- Check that you are allowed to resell the ticket according to the promoter and any applicable laws.
- Check any specific terms and conditions that apply to reselling the ticket. For example, some promoters may cancel a ticket that is sold at a price that is higher than its face value.
- Be aware that it is now illegal to resell tickets to events being held at Queensland's Major Sporting Facilities at a price greater than 10% of the original ticket price. Queensland's Major Sporting Facilities include:
- The Brisbane Entertainment Centre
- Dairy Farmers Stadium
- The Gabba
- The Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre
- Skilled Park
- The Sleeman Sports Complex
- Suncorp Stadium.
- Contact the ticker issuer if you have any questions about reselling your ticket.
