Help: What to do next?

Buying a Buy Now item or winning an Auction is just the first part of your online purchase. The steps below will guide you through the process of paying for and receiving your item.

Item status

When you’re completing the sale you can check which step you’re up to looking at the status of the item in your My Trading Post.

  • Select any item under Bought/won and to view the Status of the item.
  • The yellow highlighted area will indicate which step you’re up to.
  • Mark each step as you complete it to inform the seller of their next step.


The seller’s contact details

Trading Post® exchanges your contact details (eg. name, street address and email address) with the seller’s via email so you can make direct contact, if you need to at any stage, to complete the sale.

Make sure you check that your contact details are up to date so that the seller can reach you if they need or to send the item the correct address. If your details are out of date, email the seller the correct details.

1. Complete checkout

Checkout is where you kick-off the transaction process, by specifying how you will be paying for the item and accepting delivery.

All buyers are encouraged to complete the checkout process, regardless of how they plan to pay for or receive their purchase as it allows you to check off and monitor what stage the transaction is at and what needs to happen next.

Checkout for Buy Now items

After you commit to buy a Buy Now item you will immediately be asked to complete checkout for the item. The seller then receives notification that you have purchased the item and how you wish to pay for and receive the item.

Checkout for Auction items

  1. Sign in to My Trading Post and under Buying you can find items Won/bought.
  2. Find the item you want to checkout and click Checkout.

  3. Select your preferred payment and delivery options then click Continue.

For all options selected, your selection is emailed to the seller to notify them of how you wish to receive the item.See safe payments methods for suggestions on how to pay for your item.

Completing checkout through Marketworks

Some sellers choose to use an external website, such as Marketworks, to complete their sales. Click ‘Continue’ to proceed through the seller’s checkout at Marketworks. Here you will be able to select your preferred payment and delivery method to finalise your transaction.

2. Pay for your item

If you select to pay with PayPal you will be taken to www.paypal.com where you can sign in to pay for the item.

For all other payment options, contact the seller to confirm extra details for sending payment and delivery arrangements.

3. Notify the seller thatyou’ve paid

After you’ve paid the seller

  1. Sign in to My Trading Post®.
  2. Select the item you’ve paid for.
  3. Then click Buyer to pay which will inform the seller know you’ve paid the money

  4. Arrange collection or wait for delivery

After being notified that you’ve paid, the seller will then check that they have received your payment.

Once the payment has cleared the seller will send the item or make arrangements with you to collect the item.

5. Send feedback to the seller.

Rate and provide feedback about your experience with the seller for the benefit of others who trade with them in the future.

Note: Please wait a few moments after an auction ends to allow the status of the auction to update. It may help to refresh the ad details page a few minutes after the auction ends to see if you have won.
