Help: Withdrawing bids

When you bid for an item, you enter into a legally binding agreement to purchase the item if you are the winning bidder.

Rules for withdrawing bids

It’s important to check the item and Auction details carefully before you bid as you may only withdraw a bid in the following circumstances:

  • within 1 hour of placing it, or
  • if you have accidentally typed in the wrong amount (eg $55.00 instead of $5.50)

Trading Post® closely monitors bid withdrawals and will investigate any behaviour that it suspects to be unfair or dishonest. If we suspect you have withdrawn your bid without a legitimate reason we may contact you to clarify the reasons. If we deem your reasons or trading activity to be inappropriate or not legitimate, according to our Terms of Use, appropriate action will be taken.

How to withdraw a bid

  1. Go to the Withdraw a bid form.
  2. Sign in if you haven’t already done so.
  3. Type in the item number for the Auction from which you are withdrawing your bid.
The item number appears directly under the item name when you open the Auction..
  4. Select a reason for withdrawing your bid.
If your reason does not appear, contact the seller and ask them to cancel your bid on your behalf.
  5. Click Withdraw bid.

Your bid for the item has now been withdrawn. If you check the bidding history for the item, you will see the relevant bid has been removed.

Request the seller to cancel bids

To withdraw a bid for any other reason, contact the seller and ask the seller to cancel your bids.

If you request to have your bids cancelled, be aware that:

  • sellers are not obliged to withdraw your bid
  • all bids you have placed on this Auction will be cancelled
  • a seller cannot reinstate bids once they have been cancelled

the seller may choose to ban you from any further bidding or buying of their items.

The seller may be more understanding if you contact them as soon as possible and explain your reasons for requesting to have your bids cancelled. Communicate with the seller through Questions & Answers.

When a seller cancels your bid

A seller may choose to cancel your bids for any of the following reasons:

  • you have requested for your bid to be cancelled.
  • The seller has good reason to believe that your bid isn’t legitimate.
  • The seller has had a poor trading experience with you in the past.

If you’re unsure why a seller has cancelled your bids or banned you from buying or bidding on their items, you can contact them to ask why.

See if you can come to an understanding with the seller. If you can clarify any misunderstandings, the seller may allow you to place further bids or remove you as a banned buyer.
