Help: Cancelling bids
Trading Post® allows sellers to cancel bids on their Auctions to help you avoid the hassle of managing a difficult buyer or problematic sale.
Cancelled bids cannot be reinstated, so carefully consider whether your reasons are legitimate.
When you cancel a buyer's bid you cancel all bids that buyer has made on your listing.
When can I cancel bids?
As a seller, you can cancel bids at any stage during the Auction.
Circumstances where Trading Post permits sellers to cancel bids include:
- an untrustworthy bidder
If you have a solid reason for believing that a particular bidder is untrustworthy, such as several recent negative experiences with other traders.
In this case, you might consider banning the buyer from placing any further bids on your item or purchasing from you in the future.
- a request from the bidder
The bidder has contacted you to say they want to pull out of the Auction after placing a bid on your item.
How do I cancel bids?
- Go to the Cancel Bids form.
- Type in the item number for your listing and the username of the buyer whose bid you are cancelling.
Note: You cannot reinstate a bid, once you cancel it. - Briefly explain the reason for cancelling their bid and then click Cancel bid. Your reason for cancellation will be visible to all bidders in the Bidding History for your item.
You may wish to ban the buyer to prevent them from buying or making further bids on this item and any future items you sell on Trading Post Online.
Common questions
- Can I reinstate bids?
No. Once bids are cancelled they are gone! You can’t reinstate bids. - Are bidders notified when their bid is cancelled?
Yes. The Trading Post® will email the bidder to let them know that their bid has been cancelled and they will be notified of your reason for cancellation. - Are there rules about which bids can be cancelled?
As a seller, cancelling bids are at your discretion.
We do, however, recommend that you consider whether your reasons are legitimate as:- cancelled bids cannot be reinstated, and
- a buyer, whose bid you have cancelled without their request, may be deterred from purchasing from you in the future.
Be aware, Trading Post® will monitor reasons for bid cancellations.
- I need to end my Auction listing early. Do I need to cancel bids on the item?
No. Bids will automatically be cancelled when you end your Auction.
