Help: Sending 2nd Offers

Had difficulty getting payment because you couldn’t reach the winning bidder? Perhaps bids on your auction didn’t meet your reserve price. Or maybe you have another identical item for sale.


Well here’s your chance to save your Auction or sell two of kind, by offering your item to another bidder.


You can still make a sale without having to go to the trouble of relisting your item.

When can I send a 2nd Offer?

You can send a 2nd Offer:

  • when the winning bidder refuses to complete the sale or you are unable to contact them
  • if bids didn’t reach your reserve price
  • there is at least 1 unsuccessful bidder on your item
  • if you have another identical item to sell
  • It is within 30 days from the auction closing.

It is the seller’s responsibility to ensure they have the item to offer to the bidder.

Send a 2nd Offer

The seller has 30 days to offer one successful 2nd Offer.

Here’s how to send:

  • Find your Sold or Not Sold item in My Trading Post.
  • Open the listing for which you’d like to send a 2nd Offer by clicking on the item.
  • Your Bidding History displays a summary of all bids made on your item.
  • If eligible to make an offer, the 2nd Offer button will be visible.
  • Click the Send 2nd Offer button to offer your item to the next highest bidder at the amount of their last bid.

    You cannot negotiate the price


  • You need to specify a duration (1, 3 or 5 days) within which the buyer must accept your offer. Leave enough time for the buyer to receive and respond to your offer.
  • Type in a message to the buyer, such the reason for making this offer.
  • Click Send 2nd Offer.

What happens after a 2nd Offer is sent?

The buyer receives a notification of your offer via email and is able to view your offer within My Trading Post.

  • The buyer then accepts or rejects your 2nd Offer.
  • If the buyer rejects your offer or you don’t hear back from them within the timeframe you specified:
  • you will be sent an email confirming either their rejection of the offer or that the offer has expired.
  • you may then send another 2nd Offer to the next bidder provided it’s within 30 days of your Auction ending.
  • If the buyer accepts your offer, you will be charged a success fee and sent an email confirming that buyer has chosen to purchase the item. You can then organise the payment and delivery of the item with the buyer.

Can I send more than one 2nd Offer?

You can only have 1 successful 2nd Offer against an auction.
The 2nd Offer can be offered to up to three times until it is accepted. Each time it must be offered to the next highest bidder in the Bidding History.


If an offer is rejected, you can send another 2nd Offer to the next highest bidder as long as it is within the 30 days of the Auction ending and the offer has not already been made to 3 unique bidders.

If an offer is accepted, you can find your item in Sold items. If you have more of the same item then you can relist the ad through sell similar.

Cancel a 2nd Offer

You can cancel your 2nd Offer at any time, provided the buyer has not accepted.

  • Open the listing for which you’d like to cancel your 2nd offer by going to your Active items in My Trading Post.
  • Select a reason for cancelling the 2nd Offer.
  • Click on the Cancel 2nd Offer button.

You may make a 2nd Offer to the next highest bidder, provided it is within 30 days of the Auction ending.

Common questions

  • Can I negotiate the price when I send a 2nd Offer?
    No. When you send a 2nd Offer you are agreeing to sell your item to the buyer at the amount they bid, so be sure you’re happy to sell at that price before you send your 2nd Offer.
  • Is there a fee to send a 2nd Offer?
    There is no fee to send a 2nd Offer. You will only be charged a success fee if your offer is accepted.
  • Can I resend a 2nd Offer to the same buyer?
    No. You may only send a 2nd Offer to a buyer once and they must accept it within the specified timeframe you selected.
  • The buyer has accepted my 2nd Offer but no longer wants the item. What can I do?
    Discuss the situation with the buyer and see whether you can come to an agreement. If you’re not satisfied with the buyer’s proposal, read issues with buyers to find out what your options are.
