Help: Changing preferences
Your preferences allow you to change how you:
- receive email alerts regarding items you are buying or selling
- accept payment for and deliver items you sell
- receive newsletters and promotional bits and pieces from Trading Post®.
To change your preferences
You can update and change your preferences anytime you like.
- Sign in to Ad Tools and go to My Profile.
- Click Preferences.
- Use the checkboxes and any applicable selections to indicate your preferences.
You will need to click Show to:- specify the contact details you want are emailed to your buyers
- change your payment & delivery preferences for items you’re selling
- indicate which Trading Post newsletters and promotions you’d like to receive and how.
- Once you’ve finished changing your preferences (explained below), go down to the bottom of the page and click Save.

Email notifications – Items you’re buying
- Items of interest ending/expiring soon reminder
Trading Post can email you when items you have saved as items of interest are about to end or expire. You simply choose how much warning you’d like – 4 hours, 8 hours or 12 hours. - Highest bidder confirmation
Receive an email to let you know when you are the highest bidder in an Auction. - You have been outbid notification
Want to be emailed when another buyer has outbid you? Use this so you can start thinking about whether or not to make another offer straightaway. - You have bought/won confirmation
Congratulations! Have Trading Post email you when you win an auction. - Your bought/won item has been dispatched
Rub your hands together with glee. Trading Post will notify you as soon as a seller confirms that they have sent off your purchase. - Question answered
Asked the seller for more info about an item you’re thinking of buying? Click this to have us let you know when the seller has responded so you don’t have to keep checking yourself. - Receive 2nd Offers
This is a great one to have. Let us email you when the sale for an item you were bidding on has fallen through so you can jump at the 2nd Offer to buy the item at the amount you last bid.
Email notifications – Items you’re selling
- Listing submitted confirmation/receipt
Receive confirmation that your ad has been created and submitted and is ready to be listed on tradingpost.com.au and in a Trading Post publication if you have chosen a print ad too. - Listing will expire soon
It’s cheaper to relist than to place a new ad. Use this option to remind you to relist your ad if your item hasn’t sold yet. Choose how much warning you’d like – 4 hours, 8 hours or 12 hours. - Item has been sold
Good news is always nice to have, so tick this to let us congratulate you on your sale. - Buyer has completed checkout
Find out when your buyer has chosen their preferred payment and delivery options so you can start preparing to complete the transaction. - Buyer payment has been made
Finding out early that a buyer has confirmed they have paid lets you check payment more quickly and therefore send off the item more quickly. This makes you look like the great seller you are. - Listing ended – Item did not sell
Probably not the news you were hoping for. But it’s always good to know if your item didn’t sell so you can decide what to do next. - Classified Ad Renewal
Advertise your ad for up to 12 weeks… unless it expires. Have us email you a reminder so you can renew your Classified ad before it expires. - Question Received
Responding quickly to a buyer’s question indicates that you are a trustworthy seller and may increase your chances of selling. Tick this to let us tell you when a buyer is asking for more information.
Selling preferences
- Buyer Requirements
By selecting this, you can choose to automatically ban buyers from purchasing items you sell on tradingpost.com.au if they have a negative feedback & rating score.
Simply specify a baseline value of -1, -2 or -3. For example, selecting -1 will prevent any buyers with a feedback & ratings score of -1 or less (ie a negative feedback & ratings score) from buying or bidding on your Auction or Buy Now items.
Buyers who are banned this way, are not added to your list of banned buyers. - Email Contact Details
Specify what contact details are emailed to your successful buyers. To ensure buyers are able to contact you, your registered name and email address are always emailed. However, you can choose whether or not you’d like to also send them your street address and/or phone number.

Like to know what others think of you? Trading Post can email you the second another trader provides feedback on their transaction with you. - Feedback Reminder
We can remind you to provide feedback on the other trader after your transaction is complete.
Feedback & Ratings is an important part of trading successfully with Trading Post Online. Providing fair and honest feedback encourages fair and honest trading. After all, who wants to deal with someone who has a history of being a bad trader?
Payment & Delivery Preferences
Save yourself time by setting a default for the methods of payment & delivery you’re willing to accept from buyers who purchase an Auction or Buy Now item from you.
Note: You must provide delivery costs for postage and courier services if you offer them.
