Don’t try to investigate the fraud yourself. It’s safer to leave it to the experts.

What to report

• Suspicious ads
  • Ads that you suspect are scams or fraudulent, particularly if a seller will not provide contact details or asks for payment to be sent overseas.
  • Ads that you believe are advertising a fake or counterfeit item.
• Inappropriate behaviour
  • Activities that are dishonest, misleading, unauthorised or illegal.
  • Behaviour or language that is personally abusive, damaging or offensive toward you.
  • Comments that are profane, vulgar, obscene or racist.

Look for warning signs

• The item is advertised at a very low price – particularly a large or expensive item such as a car or boat
• The seller tells you the item is located overseas
• The buyer tells you they’re located overseas
• The seller changes how they wish to receive payment to a less safe payment method.
• The seller insists on immediate payment, or payment by funds transfer.

Why you should report fraud

• Fraud is a criminal offence
• Reporting suspected fraud helps us:
  • investigate an incident and take appropriate action
  • protect buyers and sellers, including you!
  • inform others of scams that may be operating on online trading sites so they can better protect themselves.
