2000 ford courier problems

The 2000 Ford Courier is a tough old ute, but two decades of hard yakka will reveal its quirks. Think of it as a Mazda B-Series in a flanno—durable, but check the usual farm-worn bits. Here are the usual suspects:

  • Cooling system neglect leading to overheating; diesel models can crack heads if pushed when hot.
  • Injector pump wear, smoky starts, and tired glow plugs on diesels.
  • Timing belt and water pump due on schedule; skipping it invites wallet-flattening noises.
  • Manual gearbox synchro wear (often 2nd/5th) and clutch master/slave leaks.
  • Front hub/vacuum 4WD engagement gremlins and worn CVs on hard-worked examples.
  • Rust in tray and rear arches, plus leaf-spring bushes and steering idler/ball joints loosening up.
  • Alternator/earth issues and aging wiring causing intermittent electrics.
  • A/C weak or blower resistor failures—no fun on a 40°C arvo.

Keep the cooling system healthy, service it on time, and get a pre-purchase inspection—then it’ll haul, tow, and generally refuse to retire.
