2006 nissan navara problems Page 20

The 2006 Nissan Navara can haul like a champ, but a few gremlins do love a ride-along—note 2006 spans both D22 and D40 in Australia, so issues vary by VIN. The headline act is the YD25 diesel timing chain, which can stretch and rattle like a cheap tambourine if ignored. Clutches and dual-mass flywheels wear fast with towing, and EGR/intake soot can turn smooth running into sulks and limp mode. Expect age-related suspension wear too; utes don’t get easy lives here.

• Timing chain rattle on cold start (YD25); upgraded chain kits and timely oil changes help.
• EGR valve and intake carbon build-up causing rough idle and power loss; periodic cleaning is common.
• Injectors/SCV or fuel pump hiccups leading to hard starts and surging.
• Turbo actuator/boost leaks; split intercooler hoses or clamps.
• Clutch and DMF wear; many convert to single-mass when replacing.
• Manual gearbox synchro wear (1st–2nd) and occasional diff whine.
• Worn suspension/steering bushes and rear leaf sag under load.
• Corrosion if beach-used; check chassis rails, mounts, and tray seams.

Get a thorough inspection, listen for chain noise, demand solid service history, and budget for preventative fixes—your future self will thank you.
