The 2007 Ford Territory is brilliant at hauling kids and flat-pack furniture, less brilliant at dodging a few age-related gremlins.

Expect first-gen Territory woes focused on suspension, brakes, bushes and a splash of electrics—nothing a competent mechanic and a strong cuppa can’t soothe.

• Front lower control arm bushes/ball joints wear, causing clunks and vague steering.
• Rear differential centre bush failure; thumps on take-off and driveline shudder.
• Brake shudder from warped rotors; quality pads/rotors usually fix it.
• ZF 6-speed (and older 4-speed) autos dislike neglect: leaks or harsh shifts if servicing is skipped.
• Door lock actuators and window regulators can fail; central locking glitches.
• Tailgate upper seam corrosion/water ingress around the glass.
• Power steering pump/hoses weeping; whining on full lock.
• Ignition coils and rocker cover gasket leaks on the 4.0L six; rough idle or misfire.

Buy on condition, budget for fresh bushes/rotors/fluids, and it’ll soldier on like a front-rower in golden point.
