2007 mitsubishi lancer problems

The 2007 Mitsubishi Lancer (CJ) is generally tough, but it’s not immune to a few gremlins—some louder than the exhaust you wanted but didn’t buy.

  • CVT transmission shudder or overheating in traffic; neglected fluid changes make it worse.
  • Front lower control arm bushes and strut top mounts wearing early, causing clunks and uneven tyre wear.
  • Engine mounts softening with age, adding vibration at idle; occasional rough idle from a dirty throttle body.
  • Air-con compressor or condenser leaks, delivering “hot air special” in summer.
  • Clear-coat/paint fade on roof and bonnet in harsh sun.
  • Takata airbag recall hits many—check VIN and recall status.

Service history is king: a well-maintained manual is usually the safest bet, while a neglected CVT can be a wallet grenade.

Get a pre-purchase inspection and a long test drive to confirm smooth shifts, quiet suspension, and cold A/C; budget for fresh bushes and quality CVT fluid and you’ll keep it honest.
