2007 mitsubishi triton 3.2 diesel problems Page 4

The 2007 Mitsubishi Triton 3.2 Di‑D is tougher than week‑old steak, but it’s not invincible. In Australia most 3.2s skipped a DPF, so soot tends to party in the EGR and intake instead. If you’re shopping one—or wondering why yours wheezes up hills—these are the usual suspects:

• EGR and intake carbon build-up causing rough idle, smoke and limp mode; expect cleaning and a relearn.
• Injector wear or leaking seals leading to hard starting, diesel knock and fuel dilution; test, replace and code correctly.
• Turbo/actuator issues (sticky vanes or weak actuator) giving over/under‑boost; check for boost leaks and shaft play.
• Cooling neglect causing overheating and, in worst cases, head/gasket drama; keep radiator, viscous fan and thermostat healthy.
• Clutch and dual‑mass flywheel wear on manuals; autos can get torque‑converter shudder if serviced late.
• Driveline and suspension wear: rear diff whine, tailshaft centre bearing, uni joints; front ball joints/tie‑rod ends deserve a close look.
• Electrical gremlins like tired alternators and dirty MAF/MAP sensors triggering limp mode.

Buy smart: chase a full service history, do cold and hot start checks, scan for codes, and get a pre‑purchase inspection—cheaper than a new turbo and far less sweary.
