2009 audi q5 problems Page 3

The 2009 Audi Q5 can be a charmer—right up until it starts sipping oil like it’s happy hour. Early 2.0 TFSI engines are notorious for oil consumption and timing-chain tensioner woes, while the 7-speed S tronic can get moody if neglected. Diesels fare better on torque but dislike short-trip life, and the sunroof drains have a talent for redecorating carpets. Get a thorough pre-purchase inspection and proof of regular servicing, or bring a thick wallet and a sense of humour.

• 2.0 TFSI: excessive oil use, PCV faults, and timing-chain tensioner rattle; some needed piston/ring fixes.
• S tronic (DL501): mechatronic/clutch judder or hesitation; fluid/filter changes about every 60,000 km help.
• Diesels (2.0/3.0 TDI): DPF clogging on short trips, EGR issues, and intake swirl-flap motor failures.
• Cooling bits: water pump/thermostat leaks; occasional coolant loss.
• Electrics/trim: sunroof drain blockages causing leaks, MMI glitches, window regulators.
• Wear items: suspension bushes, wheel bearings, and brake shudder if maintenance is skipped.
