2009 holden captiva diesel problems Page 6

The 2009 Holden Captiva diesel can be a bargain, but only if you know where it likes to sulk. Common trouble spots owners report include:

• Timing belt and water pump neglect leading to failure; budget for timely replacement.
• EGR/intake soot build-up causing rough running and limp mode; cleaning or replacement needed.
• Boost leaks from split turbo/intercooler hoses, plus smoky exhaust under load.
• Automatic transmission shudder or slipping if fluid isn’t serviced; some require rebuilds.
• AWD rear diff/transfer case noises and failures; listen for binding or whining.
• Cooling system leaks (radiator, thermostat housing) and random electrical gremlins.

Service history is everything—walk away from neglected examples, and get a pre-purchase inspection before your wallet learns about “Crappytiva” the hard way. Keep it on fresh fluids and correct tyres, and it’ll behave—most days.
