2009 holden commodore omega problems Page 14

The 2009 Holden Commodore Omega (VE) is tough as old boots, but it’s not immune to a few gremlins, especially if servicing has been more “she’ll be right” than right. Look for noises on cold start, vague front-end clunks, and any warning lights doing a disco. If it’s been cared for, they’re solid daily drivers with parts aplenty and mechanics who know them backwards.

  • Alloytec V6 timing chain stretch or rattle, often worse with poor oil history.
  • Front suspension wear: lower control arm bushes, ball joints, and strut top mounts.
  • Automatic transmission (4-speed) harsh shifts or flare if neglected; fluid changes help.
  • Power steering pump/hoses and coolant leaks from radiators or hoses.
  • Wheel hub bearings and brake shudder under heavy use.
  • Electrical niggles: window regulators, blower resistors, sensor faults, and airbag light from seat wiring.

Get a pre-purchase inspection, proof of regular oil changes, and listen for chain noise on cold start; your ears and wallet will thank you.
