The 2010 Ford Territory (SY II) is a handy Aussie bus, but age has sprinkled in a few party tricks you won’t love. Most dramas are about tired suspension and light drivetrain/electrical gremlins rather than the stout 4.0-litre six. Here are the usual suspects:

• Rear differential mount/bush cracking or clunks under load
• Front lower control arm bushes/ball joints and sway bar links knocking
• Brake shudder from cooked or cheap rotors, worse if it’s towed
• Power steering pump/hoses weeping; heavy steering at idle
• Ignition coil packs causing misfires and rough idle
• Tailgate glass wiring/struts failing; water leaks and rust around the tailgate
• Auto shifts flaring or shuddering if servicing’s been skipped

Get a pre-purchase inspection, verify service history, and if it tracks straight and shifts cleanly, it’s still a practical beast for school runs and Bunnings raids.
