2010 holden captiva problems Page 4

The 2010 Holden Captiva can be a bargain or a booby trap, depending on how rigorously it’s been serviced.

Here are the greatest hits owners and mechanics love to grumble about:

• V6 timing chain stretch leading to rough running and warning lights if oil changes were skipped or the wrong oil was used.
• Automatic transmission woes (shuddering, harsh or slipping shifts) that get worse with heat or old fluid.
• Cooling system leaks—thermostat housings, radiators and water pumps—causing overheating theatrics.
• Electrical gremlins such as failing door‑lock actuators, sensor faults and random warning lights; diesels can add EGR/soot buildup and short‑trip DPF headaches.

Buy with eyes open: demand a full service history, scan for codes, and budget for preventative maintenance before the holiday road trip turns into a roadside picnic.
