2010 holden cruze diesel problems Page 4

The 2010 Holden Cruze diesel can be a frugal little trooper, but it’s not exactly immune to the grumps. Think of it as a thrifty commuter that rewards diligent servicing and punishes neglect like a PE teacher with a whistle. Here’s what commonly crops up:

• DPF clogging and EGR soot build-up from too many short trips.
• Coolant leaks from plastic housings/thermostat areas and the occasional water pump weep.
• Boost leaks or split intercooler hoses causing limp mode and smoke.
• Auto transmission shudder/overheating if fluid changes were ignored; manuals can suffer worn clutches/DMFs.
• Timing belt overdue or unknown (walk away if there’s no proof).
• General ageing electrics: sensors, glow plugs, and the odd flaky module.

Prioritise cars with full history, recent timing belt and cooling-system attention, and evidence of regular highway runs to keep the DPF happy. A pre-purchase inspection is cheaper than a new turbo—find a good one and it’ll sip diesel while cruising Australia’s big, empty bits.
