2011 nissan pathfinder problems Page 3

The 2011 Nissan Pathfinder (R51) is tough as old boots, but not invincible.

On the 2.5 dCi diesel, watch for timing chain stretch and soot-related headaches; petrol V6s mostly drink like sailors but are sturdier.

Common trouble spots to check:

• Timing chain rattle on cold start (diesel YD25)
• EGR clogging, intake soot build-up, and intercooler/turbo leaks (diesel)
• Earlier R51s had radiator ATF cooler failures; 2011 is largely updated, but verify the radiator and transmission service history
• Rear suspension bushes, wheel bearings, and CVs after heavy towing or beach work
• 4WD transfer-case/actuator glitches and ABS wheel-speed sensors
• Rust in chassis rails and underbody if it’s seen salt or surf

Get a thorough pre-purchase inspection, check for recalls, and budget for preventative maintenance if the timing chain hasn’t been sorted.
