2012 hyundai santa fe problems Page 2

The 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe is a tough family bus, but a few gremlins do the rounds in Australia.

• Diesel 2.2 CRDi: soot/DPF clogging on short‑trip cars (late‑2012 DM models have DPF), showing warnings and limp mode; a long highway run or forced regen and fresh oil usually sort it.
• Boost leaks from intercooler/turbo hoses causing whoosh noises, oil mist and loss of power; clamps and hoses are common consumables by 100–150k km.
• 6‑speed auto hesitation/harsh shifts; software updates and timely fluid changes help, and an auxiliary cooler is smart if you tow.
• Worn suspension bushes and rear trailing arm rubbers leading to clunks and uneven tyre wear; fresh bushes and an alignment fix it.

Also watch for door‑lock actuators and air‑con evaporators on higher‑km cars; check recall history via VIN and get a pre‑purchase inspection before handing over the folding stuff.
