2013 mazda cx-5 problems Page 3

The 2013 Mazda CX-5 is generally a tidy steer, but early-build quirks do exist—especially on the diesel.

If you’re shopping one in Australia, scrutinise service history and look for fixes rather than fairy dust.

• 2.2 Skyactiv-D diesel: DPF regens and fuel dilution can raise the oil level; needs correct oil, software updates, and regular highway runs.
• AWD transfer case (PTU) leaks: burning smell or rumble under load; check for seepage and evidence of fluid changes/repairs.
• Rear brakes: quicker-than-expected pad wear and occasional squeal; inspect rotors and pad life.
• Suspension knocks: worn links/top mounts can clunk over bumps; test on rough roads.
• Recalls: confirm completion of any airbag or engine-related campaigns with Mazda by VIN.

A pre-purchase inspection is cheap insurance, and a long test drive at highway speed will expose most nasties.

Well-kept cars behave; neglected ones sulk—choose accordingly.
