2014 nissan x trail problems Page 7

The 2014 Nissan X-Trail (T32) is a capable family hauler, but a few gremlins have been known to crash the picnic. The headline act is the CVT, which can shudder, flare revs, or overheat if neglected or worked hard.

• CVT (Xtronic) judder/overheating or delayed engagement; fresh fluid and software updates help, but some units need major repairs.
• Diesel DPF clogging (1.6 dCi) on short-trip use; needs proper regeneration drives or a forced regen.
• Airbag recalls (including Takata on some vehicles) — check your VIN and get it done, no debate.
• Infotainment or reversing camera glitches; reboots and software updates usually sort them.
• Suspension bush wear and interior rattles as kilometres climb; annoying rather than catastrophic.

Keep the CVT serviced on time with the correct fluid, and give diesels a good highway run to keep the DPF happy. Check recalls in Australia by VIN and spring for a pre-purchase inspection — cheaper than a new transmission and a lot less swearing.
