2021 mg hs core review Page 2

The 2021 MG HS Core is the budget-friendly midsize SUV that does the weekly shop without complaining—much—then has a sulk when you ask for excitement.

Its 1.5‑litre turbo-petrol and 7‑speed dual‑clutch drive the front wheels with 119 kW and 250 Nm, which is fine for school runs but wheezy when loaded. Expect real-world economy in the high 7s to 9s L/100 km if you’re gentle.

Cabin space is generous, the seats are basic but comfy, and the 10.1‑inch touchscreen does CarPlay/Android Auto—though it can lag like a sleepy koala.

Safety kit is decent (AEB, lane support), the ride is soft, and the DCT can fidget at low speeds. The clincher is value and the long 7‑year warranty, which helps the sums look rather cheerful.
