2023 ford ranger gvm upgrade Page 47

Yes, you can upgrade the 2023 Ford Ranger’s GVM, but do it properly or expect headaches worthy of a sand dune recovery. The cleanest route is a pre-registration Second Stage of Manufacture (SSM) kit, which certifies a higher GVM from new; post-registration upgrades are engineer-certified and state-based. Most GVM kits are upgraded suspension packages (springs, shocks, sometimes bushes) with a mod plate and paperwork, but they generally do not increase GCM or the 3.5‑tonne tow rating—payload improves, towing doesn’t. Expect ballpark costs around AUD 3,500–6,000 plus engineering/inspection, and tell your insurer and registration authority once it’s fitted. If you regularly carry canopies, bull bars, drawers and a week’s worth of “just in case,” a compliant GVM upgrade keeps you legal and your Ranger less soggy under brakes. When in doubt, get an engineer’s sign-off and the exact figures from the kit’s approval documents.
