2.8 colorado engine problems Page 8

The 2.8‑litre Holden Colorado diesel (RG) is a tough unit, but like any modern oiler it has a few gremlins owners and mechanics see on repeat.

Here are commonly reported issues to watch for, especially on high‑km or short‑trip vehicles:

• EGR/DPF buildup leading to frequent regens, smoke, or limp‑mode if ignored.
• Turbo boost leaks or faulty actuators causing underboost and sluggish performance.
• Injector wear or leaking seals, showing up as rough idle, hard starts, or diesel knock.
• Cooling system leaks (hoses, thermostat housing, water pump) and overheating if maintenance is deferred.
• Timing belt and drive belt neglect around service intervals, risking noise or failure.

Use quality oil and fuel, keep software up to date, and inspect intake hoses, belts and cooling bits regularly; a pre‑purchase inspection and recall check is money well spent.
