95 vs 98 unleaded Page 7

Choosing between 95 and 98 unleaded petrol is like picking your poison with a dash of octane drama. The main difference lies in the octane rating; 98 unleaded has a higher octane number, which means it's better at resisting engine knocking. For modern, high-performance engines, 98 unleaded can deliver smoother running and slightly better performance. However, for most regular cars designed to run on 95, the benefits of 98 are often negligible and not worth the extra cost.

Prices in Australia typically range from around $1.70 to $1.90 per litre for 95, and $1.90 to $2.10 per litre for 98. If your owner's manual doesn't explicitly recommend 98, save your wallet and stick to 95. For more info on fuel options and local pricing, check out Tradingpost or servicecentral.
