Nissan Patrols are still the best starting point for anyone wanting to build a super capable off-road charger.
Honestly, where can you get a powerful 4.2 Litre Turbo Diesel 4WD single cab with full size steel tray and tie down lugs, powerful front winch, full coil suspension, solid bull bars, roll over bar, LED light bars, pole mounts, spot lights, jack, massive BF Goodrich mud tyres, UHF radio, snorkel, and the usual stuff like locking hubs, helluva road presence and no trouble parking (just roll over the top of the Prius).
And yet it doesn't drive like a tank, or even a scout vehicle. Thanks to the 4 wheel coil suspension and sway bar, this Patrol rides like any modern 4WD built for business, and has a nice solid feel to everything without undue harshness, vibration and noise. Coils also offer better off-road performance thanks to longer travel for the wheels.

What's more, those are all double cabs and lack the large tray capacity of this Nissan.
