Designed using a 'sound first' principle, the Cambridge Audio SX50 speakers are all about the music; pure and simple.
PUTTING SOUND QUALITY FIRST___In selecting the drive units for the SX50, Cambridge Audio have put sound quality ahead of all other considerations. For this reason, the drive units may not look especially impressive but they do sound it! A silk dome tweeter gives the ideal combination of crisp detail with a smooth refined sound - the ideal compliment for many budget amplifiers. Matching this is a custom-designed woofer with a treated paper cone. Although this might sound basic, the material helps give the SX50 speakers a fast, responsive sound quality with excellent bass timing.

RIGID MDF CABINET___Ensuring the drive units sound their very best, the SX50 uses rigid MDF cabinets. Designed to minimise standing waves, the cabinets help further in producing a clean, accurate sound. For a well balanced bass, even at lower volume levels, the SX50 speakers are rear ported. Should you which to place the speakers close to a rear wall or use them in a small room then you can dampen the ports with the provided foam inserts, giving a sound more attuned to the room.

DESIGNED WITH ATTENTION TO DETAIL___Although a budget speaker, you might not think it when looking more closely at the SX50s. The drive units, for example, are not only recessed but also benefit from hidden fixings. This doesn't just improve the style, it also promotes better sound-staging for a more accurate rendition of the music. The cable terminals accept thick cables and are also gold-plated for a lower resistance connection.

There's also a phase control that, if you wish, facilitates the positioning of the subwoofer behind your listening position. Finally, an auto power switch allows you to power on/off the subwoofer via your receiver or amp, meaning it can be easily tucked out of sight and still convenient to use.
