animal road signs australia

Ah, the beloved animal road signs of Australia—because nothing says "drive carefully" like a kangaroo silhouette leaping into your nightmares. These signs warn of native wildlife crossings, including kangaroos, koalas, wombats, and even emus, reminding drivers to keep their eyes peeled lest they end up as a hood ornament for marsupials.

Key facts:

• Animal signs often use a black pictogram on a bright yellow diamond-shaped background.
• They’re placed in areas known for frequent animal crossings, especially at dawn and dusk.
• Speed limits may be reduced near these signs to prevent vehicular wildlife collisions.

For the full list and locations, check your local state road authority or the Department of Transport websites. And if you’re hunting for used cars that survived these critter encounters, CarShowroom and Tradingpost might be your best bets.
