It’s the argument that pokes your wallet and hopes your brain follows. The “appeal to the hip pocket nerve” says, “Do X because it’ll save you money,” while neatly ignoring everything else. Example: “Vote for this toll-road plan—it will save the average driver $300 a year,” never mind congestion, noise, or the fact you don’t even own a car. Or, “Buy this budget tyre—it’s $200 cheaper,” overlooking braking distance, wet grip, and your continued existence. It’s persuasive, sure, but it’s also a bit like judging a ute solely by the cupholders—handy, not the whole story.
