audi q5 3.0 tdi problems Page 4

The Audi Q5 3.0 TDI is a lovely torque monster, but it’s not immune to gremlins. Common issues reported include:

• DPF clogging from short trips, leading to warnings or limp mode if regens are ignored.
• EGR valve/cooler faults causing rough running, coolant loss, or check-engine lights.
• Intake manifold swirl flap wear or motor failure, plus carbon build-up in the intake.
• Oil leaks (rocker cover, oil filter housing, and assorted seals) that perfume the driveway.
• NOx sensor and AdBlue system issues on SCR-equipped models (later years).
• Thermostat/water pump failures and the occasional timing chain noise on high-km engines.

Regular long runs help the DPF, and timely servicing wards off the rest; a pre-purchase inspection by a VAG specialist is cheaper than rolling the dice.
