Hunting the best SUV in Australia for 2023? The smart-money shortlist is Toyota RAV4 Hybrid for frugal family duty, Mazda CX‑5 for polished dynamics, and Kia Sportage/Hyundai Tucson for value and long warranty, while seven-seat crews should consider a Kia Sorento or Mitsubishi Outlander. If you want electrons, the Tesla Model Y is quick, roomy and cheap to run, though the ride can be firm and the minimalist cabin polarising. New pricing generally spans AUD $35k–$90k depending on size and spec, with used examples from around AUD $20k. Test-drive on your usual roads, check safety ratings and service costs, and don’t let giant wheels ruin the ride. Then go shopping like a pro—Tradingpost has plenty of options without the dealership small talk.
