Each state/territory has its own free lookup—Service NSW, VicRoads, QLD TMR, SA EzyReg, WA Transport, TAS Transport, NT MVR, and ACT Access Canberra. You’ll usually need the plate number (VIN works in some cases) to see status, expiry, and basic vehicle details. If it’s unregistered, don’t drive it—fines and no insurance will ruin your day. For finance or write‑off history, that’s a separate PPSR check, not the rego search.
