Australia’s EV scene finally woke up in 2023: around 87,000 battery‑electric cars were sold, roughly 7.2% of all new vehicles.
That’s more than double 2022’s share, so yes, the future arrived—just a bit late and wearing a wide‑brim hat.
Tesla led with the Model Y and Model 3, while BYD, MG and Volvo kept things interesting.
Add in PHEVs and hybrids and the ‘electrified’ slice gets larger, but those figures above are pure BEV.
Charging infrastructure grew quickly too, handy unless you enjoy negotiating over extension cords at servo car parks.
Shopping used? Tradingpost often has EVs that have already done their depreciation sprint.
