In Queensland, “automotive air‑con licence” really means the national ARCtick Refrigerant Handling Licence (RHL)—it’s illegal to handle refrigerant without it.
You’ll need a recognised automotive A/C qualification, then apply to the Australian Refrigeration Council for an RHL; if you run a workshop, the business also needs an RTA (Refrigerant Trading Authorisation) to buy, store and reclaim gas.
The scheme is federal (Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management laws), so QLD follows the same rules as the other states.
Renew it as required, keep records, don’t vent gas, and label systems properly—compliance checks do happen and fines are, shall we say, motivational.
For course providers, fees, and evidence requirements, check ARCtick’s official guidance before you start the paperwork.
