The Bathurst 1000’s results history is essentially Australia’s long-running soap opera, but with more V8 bellow and fewer ad breaks. Born as the Bathurst 500 in 1963 and stretched to 1000 km from 1973, it’s been the Ford vs Holden scorecard for generations at Mount Panorama, NSW. Peter Brock tops the honour roll with nine victories, while Craig Lowndes and Jim Richards sit just behind on seven apiece. Results through the modern Supercars era still read like a duopoly, with blue ovals and red lions trading elbows while the mountain decides who packed the bigger bravery. If you’re trawling specific years, focus on qualifying (“the Shootout”), safety-car timing, and co-driver stints—they often swing the final order more than outright pace. For memorabilia and old programmes, Tradingpost is a surprisingly decent treasure trove, assuming your shed isn’t already full of Bathurst posters.
